Got a great time with my very first photography assignment, actually it was not a professional one, it’s more of a sudden twist of fate as I was assigned by my superiors at the office to do the photo shoot at an upcoming big event. Perhaps because they always see me shoots with my Samsung Digimax.
I was also the one who suggest on what camera to buy, and that would definitely be Canon S3IS. Because it is where our budget fits in, and also I’ve read great reviews on the net.
My boss told me to read first the basic and advance manual, before giving me the camera. ![]()
After two days of reading the manual, they finally gave the camera to me, it is then I practiced what I’ve read, although it was really difficult to memorize all of it, especially the settings, I managed to shoot nice pictures at our office that day. Hey, I only got four more days to practice before the event. Wahhhh!!!
Event Day - At around 4:00 am I was already awaked, checking my gears, even though the program actually starts at 6 pm, Whew! I was at the venue at around 2:30 pm, and guests starts to poured in at around 3 pm. A bit nervous then, I started to approached them, and I started clicking….click…click..click
Tried almost all the shooting modes P, Av, Tv, P, M, SCN, Movie, Landscape, Night Scene, even the Stitch-Assist (nice for a large venue), tried also different ISO and compression setting, I also love the shots i made with the widescreen options.
Including me there are around more or less 15 photographers. That night I was fortunate enough to work side by side with a veteran photographer “Mr. Larry Valencia” of Looking Glass Studio, he was using a Canon 20D with an external battery pack (ready for war) he gave me lots of tips in between our shoots. I was impressed by his stamina, coz I barely seen him rest or sit down. I think I’ve only seen him sat once, and that was already past 1am. By the way the program ends at 2:00 in the morning. As for me, I stopped shooting at around 11:30 pm, as the Red Bull I’ve drank before I went there expires already, and I also had an aching legs bcoz of standing up for a very longgggggggggggg time.
Summary:
from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm

5 videos
70 mb remaining capacity on my 1G Toshiba SD Card
4 pcs Sanyo 2500 mah - drain
