Last Tuesday 7.13.2010 was so memorable! For I got two unwanted guest during the day. Their timing were soooooh perfect ! As I’m  suffering from a stiff neck and severe headache that day due to my high BP. Aargggh!

Hack Boy was the first to arrive. Zenkx – my co-blogger, was the one who informed me about his arrival. She was totally frickin as she was telling me about the visit of HackBoy. “My blog was HACKED!” she exclaimed!

I told her to relax as I looked into her site. (frickinjoy.com). She indeed have the right to be shocked, as her blog was re-faced! Her main page was all black, and all I can see was a red devil icon, the word HACKED in the middle, and its obnoxious introduction, all in RED!

Sensing that this isn’t one of my lucky day, I rapidly check my other blogs, since we’re under one account on my host. And Holy Camote! Just as I’d expected! All my blogs have been refaced! (websaytko.com, marjonelle.com and ukay2.com). T’was so devastating! I really, really, really don’t know what to do! Its all unexpected, not to mention the headache I have makes it all worst.

I have no choice but to ask for support with my hosting company. Luckily, they’re fast enough to restore a backup to two of the 4 blogsites. Unfortunately, (or weirdly) they don’t have a backup for my main blog (websaytko.com and zenkx’s frickinjoy.com).

Good thing I know Kevin of myamats.me, the tech guy who’s responsible for restoring the remaining two sites before BLACKOUT spreads all over Luzon because of typhoon Basyang.

Moral Lesson:

The most important of ALL! Be sure to have a BACKUP! (themes, sql, script, photos, everything that’s important for that matter..)

Logout to your blog/email/im’s whenever you leave your computer (specially when inside an internet cafe)

Use/Make/Create a STRONG password (add symbols ex.^&#_;<$”)

UPGRADE of softwares used in your blogs/site.

Avoid PHISHING sites or replying to emails that ask for your personal info.

My biggest ever LAN Project

Posted by raredog in Techie Stuff, A.U.T.... | 06.21.2010 - 11:31 am

A-Team

At last! Me and my co-employees finally nailed it! And that’s installing a DSL connection at our office.

After almost a week of drilling holes, laying-out mouldings, crimping lan cables, and configuring routers (that’s my main task).

It’s My biggest ever LAN Project in my whole “digital life” haha!

Im actually no newbie in networking (I also do pyramiding – Powerhomes, EZ Life, MyTxtBiz, etc.. lol). I know how to ping, ipconfig, release and renew, or should I say the basics. I’ve managed three internet cafes before. And the largest I’ve handled has 20 desktop while the smallest has 6 units only.

By far, this was the biggest! Im talking about connecting a 16/port switch hub, a PLDT modem, 5 wireless  routers and about 80 cpu’s (both desktop and laptop) to make them online (via wired or WiFi).

The most tiring of all is when we laid-out the mouldings! Specially on the stairways and corners of the building (btw it’s a 3 storey building). The longest LAN cable we have laid out is about 160 feet. (still safe from signal loss from the maximum stretch of 100 meters or 328 feet).

Got a bit dizzy configuring the routers, I almost gave up on the 4th day, not until I discovered the technique of assigning every routers their static ip address, subnet, gateway, and DNS. That’s the time I can boastfully say “its a piece of cake!” to everyone at the office haha!

NASA balloon crashed

Posted by raredog in Techie Stuff, A.U.T.... | 05.05.2010 - 1:34 pm

When we were kids we always get fascinated by balloons probably coz of its being vibrant and it makes us wish we could fly.  These balloons are stuffs we often see at parties and not in clinicallix , that cause delight to the children. Well at least this is what we know of balloons back then.

But this  balloon is not something kids should play around, it isn’t as vivid as the balloons at the party, it’s actually whitish/silvery and is being used by scientist. This is actually a balloon made by NASA for experimental purpose, and was launched recently in Australia.

Unluckily this giant helium balloon which was set up to ascend around 40 kilometers high, malfunctioned after its release due to strong winds. Not to mention that its carrying a multi-million-dollar cargo full of scientific instruments which should have been used to help scientists and astronomers to see the space clearer.

Luckily no one was hurt, although it can be seen in the footage that the cargo endangered a man after hitting a 4-wheel vehicle.
