GY6 Engine Performance

Posted by raredog in Two Wheels etc.., ... | 05.30.2006 - 12:21 pm

Check this out guys. For those of you who had a GY6 engine here are some tips you can do to your engine. Personally, I already done one of the tips, and that is ELIMINATING AUTOMATIC CHOKE on my Geely. And I can say proudly, that I have done it successfully on one single attempt. I even adjust the air/fuel mixture just right. “Begginers Luck” maybe, but It sure put a great big smile on my face.

GY6 Scooter & Go Kart Engine Performance

A lot of Chinese made scooters and go karts are powered by a 150cc engine based on the Honda GY6 scooter engine design.  The GY6 engine with CVT (continuously variable transmission) has decent performance for it’s small 150cc engine displacement.  It surprising how well of a job a small 150cc GY6 engine can do at moving an adult around on a scooter or even a big go kart.  Of course, more power would always be nice, but considering the small displacement of this GY6 based 150cc engine, it really is impressive.  Even so, the GY6 can benefit from some modifications to increase performance.

The Honda GY6 based engine found in these scooters and go karts is like most any other internal combustion engine – in that it can benefit from some well directed modifications.  This is true of just about any mass produced engine which have compromises that are driven because of manufacturing restraints like time and cost.  These compromises usually limit efficiency and performance potential of an engine.  Increasing air flow through an engine is the goal.  More air flow along with the appropriate amount of fuel will result in more power producing potential.  With that idea in mind, let’s look at some ways that the performance of GY6 engine can be increased. GEELY

Posted by raredog in Two Wheels etc.., Tw... | 05.28.2006 - 12:35 am

you can use this picture as sticker to your scooter

We’ll GEELY is actually my ride. She’s a 150cc china scooter of mine. She is also known as Eagle 150. She has a small but powerful GY6 engine. We’ve been using it for almost 4 years now. Going to work/home, run errands, even to the market on weekends. I can say that she is very economical in terms of gasoline consumption. She can run at 35km/liter, with the average speed of 60 -70 km/h. Im not the speedy type, but It can zoomed when the need arises or when you want some thrill. All parts are stock, except for my pulley which is now a racing pulley.

The large space on the front seat has very important role. I can not imagine other type of motorcycle that can handle what that space have to offer. I can put there almost anything, like an LPG tank, 2 sacks of rice, big basket (for market), a dog, water jug, even hollow-blocks hehehe.

Lucky for me, coz there is no major trouble for the time that we are using Geely, except for the regular change oil, and the following items which I have replaced already (front and rear tire, rear shocks, spark plug, front bearing, handle grip, stock pipe, brake pads front and rear).

Im also keeping Kim. Another scooter of mine. She’s a 90cc Kymco Yup scooter. Before, I always ride her, hehehe, year 2001 to 2002. Unregistered scoot are no that hot that time. I always ride with a group, going to Famy Laguna, caliraya, Louisiana Quezon, Lucban Quezon, Tagaytay and just joyriding around the metropolis. But now Kim just stays in the garage, I do start it’s engine from time to time:D

I always browse and join the forum at my favorite motorcycle website, motorcyclephilippines, it is where I got most of my knowledge in fixing/modifying Geely and also gained friend from different parts of the world. I’ll be posting some tips on GY6 engines I’ve gathered from the net, which I think might be helpful to my co-scooterist using the same engine. As for now, Geely is recuperating, bcoz she had an open- carburetor bypassed, hehehe

Affordable Home Entertainment

Posted by raredog in Two Wheels etc.., Tw... | 05.25.2006 - 7:39 am

I’ve just received a mid-year bonus from my work, and was thinking of what will i buy or what do we need in our house. Aha! after thinking for a while, a DVD player pops in my mind. We still have our VCD player working fine, but most of my friends are now using DVDs. That’s why when I borrow vcd from them, their reply is “sorry but our vcd’s are quite old” , or “I have no vcd’s anymore, but I have new DVD titles’  Do you want? Which obviously I can’t play with my VCD  player.

So after scouting for a nice and affordable DVD player. I finally found and bought a  Lexing DVD player. The price is very cheap, only P1,900, compare with other brands which maybe double the price or higher. It comes with a free microphone and a DVD Videoke with 500 songs worth P200. That’s not all. It also has 2 game controllers coz they also gave me a DVD with 300 games I can play with on tv. The player itself has a built-in FM radio with telescopic antenna and already 150 watts amplified . Plus  a 5.1 speaker support at the back and external speaker jacks. The saleslady said that they have models with USB support, but out of stocks that time.

And the best part is, it can read CDR, MP3, VCD, SVCD, PICTURECD or JPEG, and DIVX.

After having lunch at home around 12:30 pm,  I setup my new DVD player, unfortunately I don’t have DVD movies yet to watch. So we just play the Videoke DVD that came with the package. Yes, very nice reception on our 31″ tv plus the sound is very loud and clear. Would you believe that my family and some friends, (who happened to dropby) sang the whole day!!! Bought some drinks and appetizers. I could say that we really had fun and was entertained. We finally called it a day and turned off the DVD player at around 1:00 am. :D
